Overview

The religious college of Foix was founded in 1457 by Cardinal Pierre de Foix, pontifical legate. It welcomed 25 law students, canonists and theologians. Removed in 1790, its buildings were acquired in 1817 to establish the congregation of the Sisters of Notre-Dame de la Compassion. The distribution of the buildings is organized around a rectangular courtyard. The elements on the courtyard of the keep served as service rooms; the floor corresponded to the library; the second floor included the apartment of the prelate. The Congregation of Our Lady of Compassion was founded in Toulouse on November 2, 1817 by Maurice Garrigou, diocesan priest in the buildings of the former College. He asked Jeanne Marie Desclaux to be co-founder of this new congregation. Its purpose is the Christian education of girls and the care of the poor by all possible means. At the closing of the seminary, the residence will host a home for young students run by the Sisters of Compassion, and again a student reside
