Overview

Join us for an inspiring presentation by local historian Anne Twomey of the Shandon Area History Group. Anne will delve into the extraordinary life of Cork woman Mary Elmes, the first Irish person honoured as "Righteous Among Nations" for her courageous efforts in saving Jewish children from the Nazi gas chambers during World War II. Anne Twomey's expert storytelling will bring to life the incredible impact Mary Elmes had on countless lives. In recognition of her heroism, Cork City Council named the new pedestrian bridge across the River Lee the Mary Elmes Bridge in 2019.
