Overview

6 September 2025 (10:00 - 18:00) The Belmont Cinema is a much-loved part of the cultural heritage of Aberdeen. The cinema was designed by local architects and opened in 1896 as a Trades Hall. It opened as a cinema in 1910 and for decades has been showing an eclectic range of films. After closing in 2022 a charity was formed to save the cinema. For Doors Open Days The Belmont Community Cinema will open the doors to the currently closed building providing tours of the Projector Room with demonstrations of their film reel projectors from 11:00-18:00, last tour starting at 17:30. They will also host Three Talks in Screen 1. 10:00- The Belmont Cinema’s Architectural Heritage: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future with CEO Matt Buchanan 13:00- Representing the Past in Film through the Architecture of Scotland 16:00- The Belmont Cinema: Memories, Moments, and Creating a Shared Future All events are free of charge, but donations are welcomed. All proceeds from Doors Open Day will go directly towards the Charity Campaign to Re-open the Belmont.
