Celebrate Water Heritage day near an important water body in Kinnitty! John Feehan will discuss how the Camcor river shaped the landscape around the village, the river of his home too in Birr. The famed geoscientist released his excellent book on the Camcor in March.

A beautiful study of the river but also his love of his river of home. His own living heritage that instilled in him such a passion for our natural world.

An important stretch of the river flows through Kinnitty Castle and is one of fewer and fewer water bodies in Ireland awarded Blue Dot status for water quality indicating pristine ecological conditions. In 2000, Offaly had 13 blue dot water bodies with only 2 remaining today.

School events earlier this year have focused on these precious water bodies remaining with school children from Kinnitty NS taking part in a wonderful engagement project with catchment scientists from the local authority waters programme titled "Guardians of the Blue Dot". The local children's brilliant drawings for a "blue dot" colouring competition will be displayed on the night showcasing the imagination and drive of our future. 127 river guardians in the battle for our waters.
