Overview

The municipality of Ixelles has only one garden city, named after the physicist Alessandro Volta, as the street once housed the offices of the former Régie d’Electricité. The Cité Volta, built between 1914 and 1925 by architect Joseph Caluwaers for the Société Anonyme des Habitations à bon marché d’Ixelles, has just been partially renovated. It forms a social housing complex of 113 buildings spread over six streets, combining single-family homes and apartment buildings in a picturesque style. We invite you to discover the emulation that breathed new life into this district below Ixelles cemetery. The former power plant and printing works on Rue Volta will also soon be transformed into a place for experimentation and investigation, combining housing with creative, associative, cultural and sporting activities... The surrounding area is full of Art Deco discoveries, such as the former haberdashery with its magnificent black and yellow tiled window display. In collaboration with Arkadia.
