The Convent of Annonciade opens you its doors!
Of the convent of Annonciade in the XVIth century to the Regional Cultural Affairs Directorate: secrets of a place steeped in history. Having located street Magendie in the centre of Bordeaux, he(it) occupies a prestigious place by his(its) history(story) and his(its) architecture and is listed(classified) in conformance with(for) historic monuments today. In the XVIth century, the foundation of the convent of Annonciade begins(primes) with the construction, in a Renaissance style, its main remarkable elements. During the three centuries, the building becomes soaked with life of the nuns, with prayers and with singings(songs). Transformed into factory with saltpetre in Revolution, he(it) undergoes a long profanation, until 1808. Acquired(Bought back) and transformed into House of Mercy, he welcomes residents of many there until 1970s. In 1995, DRAC settles down following a project there of restoration(catering) and of arrangement(development) which knew how to respect the character of the place by alloying it with a contemporary architecture, in particular by including the 1% for arts. Given the historic wealth of the site and of the activity(occupation) of the district a said archaeological excavation of rescue was beforehand programmed in 1991. But this resurrection after years of sleep does not establish(constitute) the only attraction of the old(former) convent. A multitude of memories and of anecdotes populate this unforgettable place.
