Overview

The hotel Gobin or "Sénéchaussée" is a building built in 1595 inside the ramparts of the city. Built by Jacques Gobin, it has spanned centuries and served as a residence for the governor or even as a prison. Do not miss also the visit of the fountain of the Four-Tias, emblem of the city, built in 1542. On this monument is inscribed the motto, pronounced by King Francis I: 'Fontenay, a spring of beautiful spirits'. Students from the Notre-Dame high school will introduce you to these two emblematic places, witnesses of a prosperous era in Fontenay-le-Comte, the Renaissance of the 16th century.
