The Jesuit Church in Valencia and the didactic project for schools
Last month (aphil) we began the didactic visits to the Jesuit Church Valencia aimed at schools in the Valencian Community (Comunidad Valenciana).
We have created a cultural activity where school groups can create links with various fields of their regulated education and different areas from our Church.
The church of the old San José school is part of an architectural ensemble that began in the late XIX century, whose school use lasted until the early XX century. Today the whole hosts the activities of the Arrupe Center and the Jesuit Service to Migrants, dedicated to the accompaniment, training and promotion of an inclusive and intercultural society. The project, led by the architect Xavier Laumain and his multidisciplinary team (ARAE Patrimonio), carries out a global management, respectful and aware of the historical value and complexity of the work.
Intervention is carried out from coherent criteria, always giving preference to conservation over restoration and restoration over substitution.
Thus, a didactic project has been developed inviting schools to visit and get to know it. We understand that the knowledge of the building will help young generations to approach in a accurtae way to the complex reality of the city. We speak about enjoying a journey through history and the strategic location, belonging to the "future big green apple", with its neighbors Botanical Garden, the old Rio Turia riverbed, Garden of the Hesperides and the future park Trini Simó.
The unique constructive system allows us to know the laws of physics and efforts with fun group exercises. The rich decoration, develop activities on botany and mural painting techniques. Its newly discovered façade, the most remarkable elements and the definition of them.
Last April we began the visits of schools, as was the case of the Santa María de Valencia School with the students of 3rd year of ESO.
A whole morning of discoveries and unique experiences.
