The National Library of Ireland Westmeath Collection
Mullingar Library are delighted to host a talk by Steven Skeldon of the National Library of Ireland about the Westmeath holdings in its collection and resources. Hosted in conjunction with the Westmeath Archeological and Historical Society this talk will present an overview of the collections of the National Library of Ireland, with a focus on the archival collections and how to access these for historical research. Steven is a professional archivist and is the manager of the Library's family history service. The service provides free dedicated support to visitors researching family and local history. The National Library of Ireland's collections span many centuries from the manuscripts of the Chief Herald's office in the medieval period to the National Photographic Archive, a unique repository of visual records of modern Ireland. The Catholic parish records, letters, diaries and papers of the Westmeath landed estates and farmer tenants are some examples of collections that will feature in this talk. Join us this Heritage Week and discover the breadth of the National Library of Ireland collections and how these help tell the story of County Westmeath.
