Overview

Former repair workshops of the SNCF now disused, the "cathedrals of the rail" form a unique heritage, witness to the industrial past of the northern suburbs of Paris. Protected as a historical monument in 2004, this ensemble is now at the heart of an ambitious project to transform this sector of the Plaine Saint-Denis. Housing buildings, equipment, businesses and green spaces will be created alongside the vast railway halls converted into a hip-hop museum – future Aerosol. This tour offers you to discover the history of this emblematic monument of the Seine-Saint-Denis and to question the heritage issues related to its transformation. A visit led by Antoine Furio, in charge of cultural heritage inventory at the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis, and Bertrand Monchecourt, heritage architect in charge of the reconversion of the "cathedrals of rail", with the participation of Eiffage Aménagement and Maquis-Art - The Aerosol. An initiative led by the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis and Plaine-Commune, in partnership with the group Eiffage Aménagement and Aire Nouvelle - subsidiary of Equans France, and the support of SNCF.
