Overview

On the occasion of the 2025 European Heritage Days dedicated to 'architectural heritage', discover Rémival, the Energy Recovery Unit of Grand Reims, a contemporary example of industrial architecture integrated into the territory. This modern infrastructure, operated by Veolia for the Greater Reims Urban Community, illustrates the evolution of 21st-century industrial architecture, where technical functionality and landscape integration are harmoniously combined. The building reflects the new architectural challenges related to energy recovery equipment, combining technical performance and environmental respect. Rémival is fully integrated into the contemporary industrial architectural heritage through its design which integrates the constraints of the Regional Ecological Coherence Scheme (SRCE). This innovative architectural approach combines the preservation of biodiversity and spatial planning, making this installation a model of sustainable industrial architecture. The building tells the story of the evolution of waste treatment infrastructures and their transformation into real energy transition tools. With its 76,000 tonnes of waste recycled annually into 6,600 MWh of electricity and heating for 30,000 inhabitants, Rémival embodies industrial architecture serving the circular economy.
