The prefecture, presidential hotel, 1871-1879 On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, come and discover the prefecture and the hotel of the Department of Yvelines, two emblematic places in the heart of Versailles. In this city born from the will of a man, Louis XIV, and become capital of France again in the 19th century, visitors will have the pleasure to dive into an exceptional heritage. Amidst decorations and furniture that have remained intact, let yourself be transported to 1871, when the King of Prussia was crowned in the Hall of Mirrors. Built under Napoleon III, the prefecture of Yvelines offers a unique setting to relive the great hours of republican history. This 2025 edition will highlight the Third Republic, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Republic. For the occasion, the prefecture and the Hotel du Département will open their doors to the public:

  • Visit paths through the historic salons and spaces,
  • Exhibition of ancient objects and documents,
  • Conference by Mr. Fabien Oppermann on the history and role of these prestigious places. A must-see event to discover or rediscover the rich heritage of Yvelines and celebrate together the legacy of the Republic.
