Overview

Cork City has a rich history of theatre, while its incredible amateur dramatic tradition is often overlooked. This exhibition celebrates the amateur dramatic movement in the city during the pivotal period from 1923 to 1930, which saw the rise of the Shakespearean Company (“The Loft”), the Cork Drama League, and the growing prestige of its playwrights. At the exhibition's opening, members of “The Loft” will provide a short performance to celebrate the centenary of the group's founding and its place in terms of the city's amateur dramatic tradition. Accompanied by a talk by Dr. Fiona Brennan, Theatre Historian and Independent Researcher.
