Overview

The Saint-François-Xavier church is located in the heart of the Croix de Pierre district. At the initiative of Léopold Duboul, landowner in Gounon, the first stone of the church Saint-François-Xavier was laid on August 29, 1852\\. However, the true history of this church began in 1859 when Abbé Pierre Martin became the founder and first parish priest. Unfortunately, on June 23, 1875, a flood of the Garonne completely devastated the church and all its furniture. Although it was rebuilt, the church remains unfinished because the bell tower is still missing. The Church of Saint Francis Xavier houses magnificent stained glass windows, 6 of which retrace the life of Saint Francis Xavier, 3 stage episodes of the Gospel, and a superb rose represents a Christ in majesty.
