Overview

6 September 2025 (10:00 - 16:00)
Theatre Royal Dumfries invites visitors to explore the architectural and cultural heritage of Scotland’s oldest working theatre. Our event reflects this year’s theme- Architectural Heritage: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future by offering a unique look at the theatre’s historic structure and the evolving role it plays in the community. Through guided backstage tours and personal stories from the Guild of Players, visitors will discover how the building’s design and use have changed over time, connecting its rich past to a vibrant, creative future.
As part of Doors Open Day, visitors are invited to explore our heritage foyer, showcasing highlights from decades of theatrical history. Learn about the Guild’s longstanding connection with the theatre and how members have helped bring countless productions to life.
Throughout the day, members of the Guild of Players will be on hand to welcome guests, share personal stories, and offer insight into the many behind-the scenes roles involved in staging a performance, from set design to stage management.
