The pantomime genre has a centuries-old history in Armenia. there are many descriptions of traditional pantomime both in Armenian chronicles and in medieval Armenian miniatures. The Yerevan State Pantomime Theatre is considered to be the continuation of the national pantomime tradition and very often uses the means of expression of the medieval Armenian theater in its performances.

Մնջախաղի ժանրը Հայաստանում դարերի պատմություն ունի. ավանդական մնջախաղի բազմաթիվ նկարագրություններ կան և՛ հայ տարեգրության, և՛ միջնադարյան հայկական մանրանկարչության մեջ: Երևանի մնջախաղի պետական թատրոնը համարվում է ազգային մնջախաղի ավանդության շարունակողը և շատ հաճախ իր ներկայացումներում օգտագործում է միջնադարյան հայկական թատրոնի արտահայտչամիջոցները:
