Overview

Dombasle-sur-Meurthe is a French commune located in the department of Meurthe-et-Moselle, in the Grand Est region. City-center of the urban unit that bears his name, it belongs to the urban area of Nancy. In the 17th century, after a period of wars, Dombasle was half ruined and almost abandoned. The Canal de la Marne au Rhin was built in 1846 and, in 1865, the first salt works were established on the territory of Dombasle. After the Solay factory was founded in 1873, the city became the world’s leading centre for sodium carbonate production. During the Second World War, the city paid a heavy price to the Fatherland, especially during the battle of August 23, 1914\\. In all, 350 Dombaslois gave their lives. Dombasle is decorated with the Cross of War 14-18. Dombasle also owned a castle with no remains - the last ruins have given way to a grassy green space. The castle stood on the banks of the Amont and was called Château de la Mothe. This name comes from the configuration of the mound o
