Overview
The origins of Gillorgues («land of Julius» in Latin) date back to Roman times. The village is located on the Roman road that connected Majorac to Rodez. It includes many localities or neighborhoods such as Le Battut (where wheat was beaten), Le Tioulas (on the heights of the village where lauzes were extracted) or Le Monteil (small hill). Until the last century, it had many small shops and craftsmen. Today, there are still some Roman ruins on the side of Majorac, the presbytery with its magnificent roof, and beautiful mansions illustrating the rich cereal history of the village.
