Urban route of the district of La Pépinière
On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, come and discover the Pépinière district in Belfort during a 2-hour tour. Garden cities were born at the Pépinière between 1925 and 1930. Affectionately nicknamed "la Pépi", this district of Belfort takes its name from its arboricultural past but above all stands out as a breeding ground for commitment and solidarity. The Michel Legrand Cultural and Social Centre, founded in 1953 by the teacher and popular education activist Michel Legrand, is one of the emblematic places of the neighborhood, just like the church Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc, built between 1952 and 1957 by the architect Marcel Lods, and listed in the inventory of Historical Monuments. Places of memory such as the Israelite cemetery or Bellevue cemetery bear witness to the past and the commitments of the inhabitants. The architecture also tells this story, between the former "HBM", cheap dwellings of the garden city, the transformation of the Fort de Bellevue, and the disappeared Béchaud barracks. Today, memory and art come together with the installations "Points d'eau" by Raphaël Galley, or even the Théâtre de marionnettes de Belfort, installed in a former Protestant temple. An urban itinerary, created by the inhabitants and volunteers of the cultural center, invites curious and history enthusiasts to discover or rediscover this lively neighborhood, supportive, innovative, where past, present and transmission mingle. A guide will be published on the occasion of the European Heritage Days. Informations Upon registration. E-mail accueil.ccsp@oikos90.fr Phone 03 84 21 04 02
