Built from 1050 by the Benedictine abbey of Aurillac, the church of Saint-Pierre de Varen is typical of the churches of pilgrimage, by its proportions and its plan. Inside, exceptional capitals are found around the altar and on the walls of the bedside (behind the altar). Remains of a small parish church built for the peasant community can be found against the north wall of the church. Buttresses complete this imposing building, to counter the nave of the church, following the burning of the cloister.
