Bar-le-Duc is a jewel of heritage whose origins date back to the 10th century. Visitors can admire some 1,000 years of history, architecture and urban planning. This heritage extends from the remains of the first defensive fortress built around 970 in the lower town of merchants and craftsmen, and the banks of the Ornain to the vast ensemble of the twentieth century built by Lanfranco Virgili on the Côte Sainte-Catherine.
