Owned by the Habsburgs, Ensisheim became the capital of the Austrian landgraviate of Haute-Alsace in 1341\\. The Regency Palace, a multi-jurisdictional authority established by Emperor Maximilian I, was built between 1535 and 1545\\. It is a coherent ensemble of beautiful Renaissance architecture. The Council Hall overlooks the open hall. After being a city hall for a while, the building houses a museum dedicated to the history of the city. Housed in the Regency Palace built in the 16th century by the Habsburgs, the museum presents three fabulous collections: an archaeological section mainly focused on the Neolithic period, a historical section that traces the evolution of the City of Ensisheim over the centuries (not forgetting the famous meteorite that fell in 1492) and finally, a space that presents the history of potash mines in Alsace.
