Overview

The castle was built in the second half of the eighteenth century, by Gabriel de Messey, chamberlain of the Duke of Lorraine. At the death of Gabriel de Messey in 1765, the castle was not yet finished and it was not until 1788 that the first owner, Jean-Baptiste de Thumery, a colonel of the Royal Lorraine regiment, lived there. During the Revolution, Madame de Bienville, daughter of Colonel de Thumery, made the last adjustments, by clearing the grounds surrounding the castle to create gardens and orchards. She had two carpets of lawns installed in the main courtyard, bordering a large main driveway. The castle and its dovecote were listed as Historic Monuments in 1992\\. The castle is currently under renovation.
