Overview

The convent of the Hospitallers of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (Order of Malta) was created in 1236 and ruined in 1793\\. Its political, religious, economic and social impact in Haut Quercy has been considerable. The history of the place with its ups and downs, crosses the episodes of plague, the Hundred Years War, the wars of religions and finally the Revolution. During the 550 years of history, the convent is run by representatives of the great families of Quercy and must appeal to the king and even the pope in the management of conflicts. The restored architecture dates from the early Gothic period and can serve as a reference to the dating of other regional monuments.
