Overview

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, come and discover the Nivernais canal bridge. The report of the chief engineer of the Nivernais canal of August 5, 1831, states that "the bridge of Mailly-le-Château is so indispensable to the frequent communications that take place by the way [...], that one should not think about finishing the part of the canal that faces the town, before the bridge has been previously built. The merger of the quarries of Avigny and Mailly-la-Ville, which will provide the necessary cut stone and limestone, commits us to proposing to build a bridge made entirely of stone. The chains, the edges of the vault, the parapets and the coronations will be made of ashlar, and the rest of the naked facings will be in rubble stone. Informations Free access
