Overview
⛪ Notre-Dame Collegiate Church and Cloister – A Dive into Gothic History
In 1336, Cardinal Arnaud de Via, nephew of Pope John XXII, founded in his livery a chapter of twelve canons to which he bequeathed all his goods. The canons then enlarged its chapel, which became the collegiate church of Notre-Dame. In 1350, they built the cloister adjoining the church, as well as the belfry. Leaning against the north, the cloister allowed access to the buildings of the monastery. In 1792, the collegiate church replaced Saint-Pons as a parish church. Of southern Gothic style, it houses many works of art, including a copy of the famous Piéta, the original being preserved in the Louvre Museum. The collegiate church and its cloister have been classified as historical monuments since 1862. Informations Free. Accessibility- Mobility Impairment
