Visit of the Residence of France in Ho Chi Minh City
Built in 1872 by the engineers of the French Navy, the Residence of France is contemporary with the main buildings of Saigon: the Norodom Palace (1868-1873, today Reunification Palace), the Major Seminary of Saint Joseph (1863) or the Cathedral (1877-1880). Only the Post Office was later (1886-1891). Located in the heart of the historic centre of the city, it was first occupied by the military governor of the colony, then by the superior commander of the armed forces in Cochinchine, and the Residence of the Ambassador of France in the Republic of Vietnam after 1954\\. In 1975, it became the Residence of the Consuls General of France. In the salons, which today host the events organized by the Consulate General, there is a harmonious furniture from the time of the Nguyễn dynasty of Huế.
