Overview

Built under the First Empire by Alexandre Jean-Baptiste Guy de Gisors, the new cathedral, in a neoclassical Greek style, was dedicated on 24 August 1816 to Saint Vincent (deacon and martyr) and Saint Louis, king of France. The whole building is classified as a historical monument. The two towers and the forecourt were renovated in 2006 by the City of Mâcon and earned the City the distinction of "ribbons of Heritage" in 2009. This monument retains its rich 19th century decor. One can notice, among other wonders of art and architecture, a trompe-l'œil decor by Bussière and Le Christ en croix by Jacques-Louis David (1782) which was exhibited at the Petit Palais in Paris in 2017.
