Visit of the exteriors of the castle of Vaux 49140
The earliest date mentioned for the castle of Vaux dates back to 1300 with Lord Salomon de la Chevrière. The original seigneury was composed of a castle, a chapel and service buildings surrounded by a wall, towers, a drawbridge and moats. The castle was deliberately deconstructed in 1815 to be replaced by a more comfortable house completed in 1821 on plans made in the eighteenth century. The moats were redesigned with softening of the right angles more military aspect, creation of an island, removal of part of the wall and towers. The chapel was erected from 1298 and dedicated to Saint George in 1300. Its construction was probably decided at a return of crusade. It has all the characteristics of a chapel housing relics This castle has been in the same family since 1750. Informations Adults 2 €
