Overview

This orchard or «orchard of the charronne» comes from an old property constituted at the time of the revolution by the baron Reynaud, then supreme authority in Puy-en-Velay. The estate, whose heart was the «Château» located on the other side of the RN88, stretched from the Riou valley to the current Henri Vinay garden in the city center. With more than 120 fruit trees, this orchard offered a great diversity, both in terms of species (apple, pear, plum, cherry, walnut, quince, hazel, etc.) and varieties (mostly in a single copy). Very old specimens bore witness to its long history. In 2005, it was bought in the state by the Communauté d'Agglomération du Puy en Velay, for a total availability to Jardins Fruités. Aware of the interest of the richness of this land located at the gates of Puy-en-Velay, Jardins Fruités decided to restore the orchard and promote it as a resource center. It is now a real place of sharing and exchange where the association organizes many events and workshops!
