Overview

Harki course

After their crossing of the Mediterranean, 25 families of harkis are welcomed in Ongles in 1962.

The House of History and Memory of Nails traces the history of the Algerian war and the reception in the village of 25 families of harkis repatriated urgently from Algeria in July 1962 thanks to Lieutenant Durand. The permanent exhibition "They are arriving tomorrow" proposes to follow these paths marked by dangers, mourning, encounters, hopes, resilience... through texts, photos, video testimonies, travelling objects. The harkis were hired in 1963 by the Water and Forests to reforest plots of land on the mountain of Lure, maintain and restore forest tracks and paths. The fruit of their work is always visible since it has shaped the foundations of the forest that we know today.
