Aeris, the wastewater treatment plant of Symisca (a union grouping the metropolis Nice Côte d'Azur and the municipalities of Cagnes sur-mer, La Colle-sur-Loup, Villeneuve Loubet and St-Paulde-Vence) located in Cagnes-sur-Mer, is the 1st positive energy plant in France. This plant converts its sludge into green energy by injecting biomethane into the GRDF network and exploits the heat and energy available at every stage of its process. More than a water treatment plant, it is a virtuous site that produces more energy than it consumes.
