Overview
🏞️ Regulus Caves – Discovering the troglodytic habitat of Meschers
Carved into the limestone cliffs overlooking the Gironde estuary, the «holes» of Meschers welcome you in an exceptional natural setting.
🕳️ Originally natural, these caves were developed by man to become, in the nineteenth century, a true troglodytic habitat. 🚢 The name Regulus comes from a French ship wrecked in front of Meschers under Napoleon, to escape the English fleet. 🔎 Topics covered during the visit: • Gironde estuary & geology • Barnacle and traditional fishing • History of the Regulus • Legend of Cadet the Shipwrecker • Seaside tourism in the 19th century • Protestant refuge during the wars of religion • Daily life in troglodytic habitats 👧 For children: a fun visit with Minidik, a curious little shrimp, who questions the strange habits of humans living in the cliffs... A captivating journey through time, at the crossroads of nature, history and legends. Informations Free. Accessibility- Hearing Impairment
