Overview
⛪ The Saint-Martin de las Oumettes Chapel: a heritage renaissance
In Mauroux (32380), since 2004, the association ASMO works for the rehabilitation of the chapel Saint-Martin de las Oumettes.
The history of this singular place begins in 1729, when a child from the country, François Claverie, called «Toulouze», having made a fortune «in the Americas», bequeathed 15,000 livres tournois to his parish for the construction of a chapel. He wishes that a low mass be celebrated there every day for the salvation of his soul. Long abandoned, the chapel required heavy restoration work, started in 2004:- consolidation of the walls,
- repair of the roof and the bell tower... These interventions were carried out in partnership with the Fondation du Patrimoine and the Sauvegarde de l'Art Français. 🎨 Today, it is the interior of the chapel that comes back to life. Thanks to the talent of Jean-Marie Broutée, alias JMBey, a professional artist and former student of the Ecole Boulle (Paris), the walls find the colors and patterns imagined by our illustrious predecessors. A titanic work, more than 3,000 hours, to preserve and revive the local heritage.
