Overview
⛪ Visit of the chapel of the blue Penitents
Description
The chapel of the Blue Penitents was built in 1845 by the Montpellier architect Omer Lazard, in a Troubadour neogothic style. In 1891, an organ built by the factory Théodore Puget was installed there. His renovation has just been recently carried out by Michel Formentelli, from a family of French-Italian-Portuguese organists, who learned the trade from his father Barthélémy Formentelli. The chapel is also known as Saint Rita’s Chapel. It houses more than a thousand ex-votos dedicated to the saint, hanging on the left wall of the building, some of which have been installed this year. ⚠️ The crypt, where Albine Vassal de Montholon rests — who accompanied Napoleon I to St. Helena with her husband, General de Montholon—cannot be visited. Informations Free entry. Open participation. Maximum capacity set at 180 people, with self-guided visit or guided tour. A comment from the brotherhood will present its history, from its origins around 1050 to the present day. Accessibility- Mobility Impairment
