Overview

According to diverse historic sources(springs), the current castle was built by 1703 by Falkenhayn on a site which would before have sheltered the old(former) castle of the Voltz d' Altenau and that of Müllenheim-Rechberg. Since 1874, it is the property of the family Grunelius. The castle was changed in the course of 19th and 20th s. The park would date the end of the 18th s.; destroyed during the war of 1914-18, then restored from 1920s, the park presents the big(great) path of arbour and paths connecting(binding) the regular gardens dominating the plain of Alsace in the environmental park coming down(falling) up to the channel(canal) of Bruche. Terrace gardens, adorned with topiary, of conifers and seats(sofas) of boxwoods around statues, keep(preserve) as well stories of spiritual adventure as lived Antoinette and Alexandre Grunelius in their friendship with the philosophers Jacques and Raïssa Maritain, which are buried in the cemetery of the village.
