La denominada cárcel de Broto tiene un origen claramente defensivo dado que guarda estrecha relación con la protección del antiguo puente de la localidad, aunque también cumplió posteriormente con la función de prisión. El acceso a la torre se realiza desde este edificio, que da a la planta intermedia, la de mayor interés por los grabados dibujados por los presos que decoran los muros, desde del siglo XVI hasta principios del XX, aunque predominan los del siglo XVIII.
