A BRIDGE, SIX STORIES AND A HALF

In 1505, the friars of the San Francisco Convent requested permission from Queen Joanna of Castile to build a new bridge over the estuary of Bilbao, avoiding the long detour to the San Antón bridge. The Ribera bridge had six versions, each with its own story: one that was never completed, another that lasted only two years, one that was burned down by the French, one inaugurated by 53 oxen, the famous Suspended Bridge, and the current rationalist one. This tour, between the "Gertutik Urrun | Caminos sobre la Ría" exhibition and the current bridge, revisits its history filled with anecdotes through images.

1505ean, San Frantzisko Komentuko fraideek Gaztelako Juana erreginari baimena eskatu zioten itsasadarraren gainean beste zubi bat eraikitzeko, San Antoneraino bira ez emateko. Erriberako zubiak sei bertsio eduki zituen eta zeinek, bere historia: bat ez zen eraiki, beste batek bi urte besterik ez zuen iraun, beste bat frantsesek erre zuten, beste bat 53 idik inauguratu zuten, eta Zubi Eseki ospetsua eta gaurko arrazionalista. UN PUENTE, SEIS HISTORIAS Y MEDIA 

En 1505, los frailes del Convento de San Francisco solicitaron a la reina Juana de Castilla permiso para construir un nuevo puente sobre la ría, evitando dar la vuelta hasta San Antón. El puente de la Ribera tuvo seis versiones, cada una con su historia: uno que no se terminó, otro que duró dos años, uno quemado por los franceses, el inaugurado por 53 bueyes, el famoso Puente Colgante, y el actual racionalista.
