Overview

Space for refreshments, snacking and relaxation under the plane trees near a food truck to enjoy the tranquility of the place. This place was called, in the 15th century, 'Beau-Lieu' and hosted for four centuries religious communities including the Carmelites from the 19th century, present in Avignon since 1612, and who lived there until the year 2022. Located in the center of Avignon, leaning against the multi-centenary ramparts, the Carmel is an oasis of nearly 1.5 hectares of greenery in the city of the Popes. With this place, Oykos and the association of the Third-Place of Carmel have given themselves 4 missions: • Fight against the isolation of elderly people: for them, they imagine comfortable housing, in a dignified place, living and adapted to their needs. • Propose a living space for students • Preserve this place of nature and contemplation while opening it to the rest of the city: whether in the buildings or in the 1.5 hectares of park, the meeting modalities are multiple! Educational vegetable garden, chicken coop, solidarity café. • Create an interface with the culture, so present in Avignon: scene during the festival, artists' residences, artistic programming throughout the year.
