Walk in the geological past of Laxou
Discovery of the Champ-le-Boeuf pleasure park under a whole new look. Behind its peaceful alleys and green spaces hides an old quarry, today recognized as an emblematic site of the local geoheritage.
This singular place offers a wonderful opportunity to turn back the time. The rock formations visible in the park bear witness to a distant time - about 170 million years ago -, when the region was covered by a shallow sea. The rocky outcrops of the site illustrate different processes of erosion, the alluvium deposited by the Meurthe, the presence of fossils and traces of exploitation by quarries: all clues that help to better understand the geological history of the territory.
This outing will be hosted by Romain Foucal, a master’s student in geography at the University of Lorraine, who conducted a study as part of an internship within the LOTERR laboratory. This work has identified nearly 80 sites with geopatrimonial potential in the municipality, the main one being the Champ-le-Bœuf amusement park.
