Overview

Peyrusse, the ancient Petrucia, is a place steeped in history that has its origins in ancient times. It is a true open-air history book, offering a walk through the centuries. In May 767, Peyrusse was placed under the authority of Pépin le Bref, king of France, who removed her from Waïfre, her Visigoth lord. Since then, Peyrusse has followed the route of the county of Toulouse, becoming in the thirteenth century the largest bailiff of Rouergue. The city is growing and experiencing remarkable economic and demographic growth. It then had 700 fires, or about 3,500 inhabitants, and became a military stronghold. It is administered by the bailiff, the king’s attorney, and four elected consuls. However, the ravages of the Hundred Years' War, the Wars of Religion and the dismantling of its walls in the 17th century gradually weakened it. In 1719, it lost its status as a bailiwick town, resulting in the inevitable decline of Peyrusse. The grandeur and splendour of this medieval site offer visit
