Warrenpoint - Wake the Giant Festival
Wake the Giant is based on the legend of a sleeping Giant in the Cooley Mountains wakening in Warrenpoint. This year, the legendary Fionn mac Cumhaill has company, welcoming two new Giant Guardians to the area.
Wake the Giant takes place in the charming seaside town of Warrenpoint, in the recently designated Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark. Nestled on the picturesque shores of Carlingford Lough, Warrenpoint is a town steeped in history and culture.
This unique, vibrant festival celebrates the town's rich heritage and legends. As visitors stroll through the scenic streets, they are immersed in live music and captivating performances that echo the town’s storied past. Relish in the Giant's food feasts, where local flavors and culinary traditions are showcased, providing a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
Wake the Giant centres on the newly refurbished Edwardian town park and bandstand. Traditional and contemporary music is part of the festival with buskers and a line-up of local bands. The festival offers workshops in traditional crafts – copper-smithing, clay-modelling, willow-weaving and wood-carving amongst others. We also provide a chill out ‘n’ discover zone for people with sensory issues to provide a vital time out.
Join us in Warrenpoint this Heritage Week and become part of a living legend. Experience the magic, embrace the history, and make memories that will last a lifetime. Wake the Giant is more than a festival—it's a celebration of a community's spirit and a testament to the enduring legacy of its giants.
This event is free, however the Greencraft workshops have to be booked in advance at a cost of £5 and the sensory activity sessions have to be booked at a cost of £3. This is to avoid disappointment and long queues and to maintain the quality of tuition for small groups.
