Overview

6 September 2025 (10:00 - 16:00)
Wemyss Bay Station was completed in 1903 by the Caledonian Railway as an interchange between trains and steamers. Designed by architect James Miller and engineer Donald Matheson it is an outstanding building with its dramatic semi-circular concourse, curved pier and attractive main building. It is listed Category A.
The station and the tour of it highlights how a building with an everyday use can still be astonishingly spectacular. The station is much-loved and is the focus of the local community. The exhibition illustrates the history of the station, with historic photographs and artefacts.
For Doors Open Days there will be guided tours of the station at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm with details of the station's history and its architectural and engineering features. Tour begins from the Station Bookshop.

ScotRail runs trains half-hourly to Wemyss Bay from Glasgow Central, Paisley Gilmour Street, Port Glasgow and local stations.
McGills run four buses an hour (901 and 906) from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station to Wemyss Bay and Largs via Port Glasgow and Greenock.
