Overview

Presentation of the association The association Mabanati Antoinya, based in Acoua, aims to fight against youth idleness through cultural, artistic and educational actions. With more than 200 members, mostly women of all ages, it defends the living heritage of Mayotte, including the debaa, spiritual art sung and choreographed. Context and justification The debaa is a Sufi art sung and mimed by women, mixing poetry, spirituality, gestures and feminine aesthetic rituals: outfits, hairstyles, makeup, henna application. This tradition, passed down from generation to generation, is a symbol of beauty, education, and social cohesion. Today, the association wishes to transmit this cultural richness to the youth of Mayotte as part of the European Heritage Days, through immersive workshops, a live performance, a documentary space and dynamic digital communication. Project objectives • Transmit to the younger generations the cultural, aesthetic, and spiritual values of the deba • Revaluing the Mahoran woman as an actor of heritage • Raise awareness of traditional female beauty as a cultural expression • Offer an inclusive and free experience around singing, care and body • Create digital content to ensure wide dissemination, particularly among young people Program for Saturday, September 20, 2025 – Acoua Morning (09h00 – 12h00) 09:00 – 10:00: Protocol opening Reception of authorities and partners Musical animation: Shama de Debaa Official speeches and presentation of the programme Opening of exhibitions and stands to the public 10h00 – 11h30: Presentation of workshops and stands Manufacture and exhibition of traditional instruments Basketwork, pottery, embroidery, handcrafted decoration Traditional games and participatory workshops Painting, braiding, traditional care, henna 11h30 – 12h00: Mlelezi Service Dance and percussion by the children (HCA and Loubajunior) Afternoon (13:00 pm – 17:00) 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Participatory workshops and free visits Manufacture of instruments, pottery, basketwork, painting, traditional games Musical initiation and continuous demonstrations 15:00 – 15:30: Debaa demonstration and percussion 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM: Festive restitution of the children Mlelezi and traditional dances 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Collective festive time Musical and dance presentations by the associations Presentation of the traditional Mahoran bride Traditional outdoor games 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Official closing Musical entertainment Thanks and restitution of highlights Informations Unconditionally
