Woodhouse in Time Out of Mind: A Waterford Country House as a Lynchpin between Past, Present & Future
Woodhouse Museum is situated on the Woodhouse Estate, Stradbally, County Waterford. The demesne at Woodhouse is steeped in the history of County Waterford. Here, alongside the River Tay, extensive woods were planted in the eighteenth century, providing a beautiful vista which, through careful management, continues to this day. A visit to the museum offers an opportunity to study and discover how generations of interconnected families ran the Estate, which still remains a working farm. Fitzgeralds, Uniackes and Beresfords lived here in past centuries before the Estate was acquired by Jim Thompson in 2012, and he has devoted considerable skills to the restoration and rejuvenation of the house and lands. The museum presents the story of the estate in an unbiased and objective manner giving an insight into the lives of members of historically influential families, bridging the past with the present and giving a glimpse of the future. In doing so the museum strives to shed light on the social, economic and intellectual life of not just the owners of the estate but those who worked at Woodhouse and contributed to its success. As part of Heritage Week the curator of the museum will present the history of the house in person, with the museum offering additional information through video and touch screen. We look forward to welcoming you to the museum and hope you will enjoy the occasion. image: Courtesy of the National Library of Ireland Booking essential Parking space is limited Donations towards the Waterford Hospice welcome
