Workshop: in the shoes of a stage manager
The museum dedicated to the writer, Jules Amédée BARBEY D'AUREVILLY, was housed in his family home until the age of 18\\. This 18th century mansion was completely renovated in 2008, on the occasion of the bicentenary of its birth. The floor, which is dedicated to the writer, has preserved its chimneys, its paving, its panelling. Visitors can also see various personal items, clothing (vests, silk neckties with lace jabot, trousers, jackets), a very large number of autograph letters, precious manuscripts, numerous portraits, as well as "the women’s wardrobe" dedicated to his tumultuous loves and a digital terminal where one can leaf through the "Disjecta Membra" (notebook written throughout his life). A 27-minute film about the life of the writer is also screened on this floor. On the ground floor, visitors are immersed in the permanent exhibition "Barbey contre son temps" and explore with him the political and intellectual universe of the nineteenth century.
