Labeled museum of France, the Henri Barré museum is installed since 1920 in a private mansion, built in the nineteenth century, by the doctor of the same name. The Gothic Revival building, built in 1862 in the heart of a historic district of the city, has retained some of its interior decor and collector’s house charm. Its rich collections, spread over three levels, bring together several themes. French earthenware (Nevers, Moustiers, Rouen, etc.) and foreign earthenware (Delft, Faënza, etc.), fine arts, furniture and the very special atmosphere of the cabinets of curiosities. By presenting archaeological and ethnographic collections, visiting the Henri Barré Museum also means discovering Thouars and the Thouarsais Country over time.
