Attend a 50-year-old choir concert
The fort of the Ayvelles is as much by its size as by its history. Spread over more than 6 hectares, this property of the Departmental Council offers a unique and striking memorial. Owner of the fortified area of Ayvelles since 2004, the Departmental Council has entrusted the Association of Fort and Battery of Ayvelles (AFBA) the maintenance and development of this fort. This structure, built between 1877 and 1879, is part of the fortified system "Séré de Rivières" (forts built on a line from the Channel to the Mediterranean Sea). Typical of the military architecture of the early Third Republic, it is the only structure of its kind built in the Ardennes. The Fort des Ayvelles is built of cut stone and surrounded by a ditch and a counterscarp. To the east of the fort, another building called "the Battery" completes the set.
