Overview

The proposal intends to tell the story of the people of a Largo in the city of Lisbon, Largo do Intendente Pina Manique. This place of the city is a place of confluence of cultures – there are more than 80 nationalities in this territory of the parish of Arroios. We intend to illustrate the stories aimed at childhood, in a book in paper support (and digital with several languages), which will be offered to the children of the community and/or can be downloaded for free or viewed on a microsite created for this purpose, being accessible in several languages for everyone.

The project starts from a central object - the illustrated children's / youth book - whose history will be written from the reports of the inhabitants and workers and cultural producers of the parish of Arroios, who develop their activity in Largo do Intendente Pina Manique, will be complemented with exhibition of the project for the selection and collection of stories and images, many of which are part of the LARGO portfolio, which over 10 years developed cultural activity with the local population. The project will be elaborated by integrating the various communities, in the different phases of the project, making a call for local participation.

As a legacy of this project, we tell the history of a place where the improvement of public space, but above all the cultural and social work of proximity, carried out by Municipality, Parish and cultural structures such as LARGO positively changed the space and strengthened the sense of community and identity. This story is an example of the importance of local dynamics, cultural agents, working with the community, for the creation of a place and a shared and common memory.

European Dimension

The story that we propose to tell the youngest and their family, aims to highlight the perspective of cultural diversity, present in this parish of the city of Lisbon, in particular. We want it to be very accessible, translated, shared by digital means and exposed in the LARGO space, since it is the very story of the people who pass by, live and work there.
