Giornate europee del patrimonio
Theme and dates for 2025: Architetture: l'arte di costruire | September, 27th and 28th
Instructions for the organizers
Every year for two days in September, Italy participates in the European Heritage Days, the programme promoted since 1991 by the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The aim is to emphasize the central role of cultural heritage and to involve communities in its participation.
The festival is coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Culture. State cultural places take part in the project together with numerous non-state museums, municipalities, galleries, foundations and private associations, providing an extremely varied cultural offering, with a calendar that reaches more than a thousand events.
The “GEP - Giornate europee del patrimonio” are a remarkable choral event giving an image of the widespread wealth and the diversity of Italian cultural heritage: from the most famous museums and sites to less-known hidden treasures, a lot of places across the Country will open their doors day and night. Their common aim is to celebrate history and cultural identity strengthening the link with respective territories, traditions and communities.
On Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September, Italy once again takes part in the European Heritage Days (Giornate europee del patrimonio – GEP): across the country, state and non-state museums and cultural sites will host special openings, guided tours, and cultural activities under the theme “Architectures: the Art of Building.” On Saturday evening, state museums will also remain open with a symbolic admission fee of just €1 (with the usual legal exemptions).
The full programme of events throughout Italy is regularly updated on the Ministry of Culture’s website https://cultura.gov.it/giornate-europee-del-patrimonio-2025
In Rome, the San Michele monumental complex—home to the Directorate-General for Museums and to the Italian Museums—will also open its doors to the public on 27 and 28 September, with a special late opening on Saturday evening.
